Bengals are a unique breed of domestic cats. The breed arose from the crossings of the Asian Leopard Cat with domestic cats. This hybrid cross preserved beauty of the Asian Leopard Cat with the temperament of a domestic cat. Bengals are medium sized cats ranging in size from 8 pounds (females) to 18 pounds (males). Although Bengals have a wild heritage, Bengals function like normal domestic cats. Bengals use litterboxes. They thrive on high quality cat food. Bengals love to play. They love nap time (on your lap) and afternoon walks on a leash.

Bengals come in a variety of colors. Background colors can range from golden, rust, brown, and orange to a lighter sand, buff, and ivory. Even the Bengal spots have a variety of coloration. Spots can be rust, cocoa, chocolate, brown, charcoal, and black.
Bengals come in two coat patterns: spotted or marbled. The spotted pattern is the most common among the Bengal breed. Bengal spots can have striking rosettes or spots with more than one color. Rosettes usually form when a darker color outlines the spots. The second pattern is marbled. The marbled pattern was developed by crossing the rosette pattern with the common tabby pattern. This created a unique marble-like look.

Bengals are stunningly beautiful, but do not let this beauty hypnotize you. Bengals are not your typical house cats. Bengals are extremely active and intelligent. In general, the Bengal temperament is more like a dog than an average cat. They are very outgoing. They love to run and play, fetch, and climb to the highest cupboard. In fact, a Bengal kitten is capable of jumping 3+ feet straight up in the air. Some Bengals even enjoy playing in water. When playtime is over, a Bengal seeks out lap to nap on. Whether it is a game of fetch or a short lap-nap, Bengals enjoy quality time with their humans.
